#DrunkOnMusic – Billy Bibby & The Wry Smiles

Billy Bibby & The Wry Smiles are the exciting new musical endeavour of Billy Bibby, former and founding member of Catfish and the Bottlemen.

After several years with the Brit award winners, Billy Bibby assembled a band of merry man and honed a new music vision, embarking on a new adventure.

The band’s first single, ‘Waitin’ for You’ was released 3rd November 2015 and the debut EP, Bide Your Time, followed in February 2016. Tracks have received play on Radio X, BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Wales, Virgin Radio UK, Amazing Radio and close to 100 indie stations in the UK and abroad.

A sizeable tour followed in 2016 with over 70 gigs and festivals in 40 UK cities. The band are touring again in 2017, the dates are HERE

SUBSTITUTE is the latest single to be released today, and we’ve had a listen.

An alternative foot stomping air of Americana, the influences of Billy Bibby don’t appear that clear, which we like. Personally, our comparison is a heavier ‘ rock n roll’ period of Ryan Adams. ‘SUBSTITUTE‘ carries Billy’s characteristic vocal style, easily dextrous when fronting rock and roll sounds and lyrical flow.

The band are tight, the track has a catchy chorus and the songs foot-stomping beat will undoubtedly be a crowd pleaser. Billy Bibby does remind me of Ryan Adams, the latter reminds me of Bruce Springsteen. Has the UK had an heir apparent to ‘the boss’?. I think we may have just found him.
